1. General information
1.1. Description of the control
Kanban is a multi-column (resource) visual board that displays events visualized in the form of cards.
1.2. Create a new control
- A detailed description of creating new controls in the edit form is provided in the separate guide Creating edit form controls.
1.3. Editing or deleting a control
- For each existing control, a pencil icon appears on the left side of the edit form to change or delete the control's settings.
- Individual controls can be moved vertically in the edit form using the Drag&Drop method. Moving consists of grabbing the control, preferably behind its name located in the left column of the edit form, and then dragging it to the desired position in the edit form.
- Controls can be moved only with the “Drag&Drop” check box located above the toolbar with controls selected. For security reasons, this check box is cleared after each login to the application, so that a control is not moved by accident.
2. A list of tabs in the control's settings dialog
- General – Setting general properties
- Resources – Setting the visual board's resources
- Text – Setting the columns displayed on individual cards
- Tooltip – Settings for columns displayed in details
- Help – Help text settings
- Rights – Rights settings
2.1. “General” tab
2.1.1. Name
- The name of the control.
2.1.2. Dictionary
- The dictionary lists the names of other controls, forms, view pages, categories, applications, and application groups used across the entire application.
- The dictionary search is used to design the correct control name and to maintain the consistency of the nomenclature throughout the application so that controls with the same meaning located in different places in the application are named in the same way.
2.1.3. Width
- The width of the control, expressed in pixels.
- If this input field is not filled in, the visual board stretches to the full available width.
2.1.4. Data source
- The data source defines the source database records displayed in the visual board.
- Data source settings are made in the graphical designer of database queries. A detailed description of the database query designer is provided in the separate guide Database query designer.
- If the “Time span by” field of the data source is filled in, a “from-to” filter is displayed above the visual board. If the default “From” and “To” values are not filled in the query, “From” is prefilled with the first day of the current month and “To” with the last day of the current year.
- If the data source contains columns for filtering, filters are displayed above the visual board as well. If the resources are defined by a query, a filter set on a column of the form that the resource query reads from also narrows the list of columns of the visual board.
2.1.5. Title
- Select a column that specifies the title of the event on the visual board.
2.1.6. Resource
- Select a column that specifies the resource of the event on the visual board.
- Resources are displayed as individual columns of the visual board.
2.1.7. Options
- Deny opening records
- Checking this box determines whether all users should be denied access to the edit form in order to open the displayed database record by clicking on the card title on the visual board.
- Clicking on the card title first saves the record of the edit form in which the visual board is placed, and only then opens the record of the card. If the record of the form has not changed, only the write to the database itself is skipped – the “OnBeforeSave” and “OnAfterSave” scripts run anyway. If the user may not change the record of the form, the record is not saved and the scripts do not run.
- Allow multiple assignments
- Checking this box determines whether a text box or a drop-down list with the selected value should be displayed in the visual board instead of the control value itself, with the option to change the value without having to open and edit the record in the edit form.
- A value can be changed directly on the card only in columns displayed in the card text (the “Text” tab) whose control has the “Allow multiple assignments” check box selected on the “General” tab and the CONTROLINDETAILS() function entered in the “Notes” field on the “Help” tab.
- The changed value is saved immediately. The “OnBeforeSave” and “OnAfterSave” save scripts of the edit form run only for a control with the “Run OnBeforeSave/OnAfterSave before the record is saved to the database” check box selected.
- The check box on a card can be switched even for a control set to read-only and for a record of another user, as in a view table. A detailed description of the check box is provided in the separate guide Edit form – CheckBox.
- An anonymous user may change the values under the same conditions as a logged-in user, that is according to the editing rights of the record. All anonymous visitors, however, share a single user account and are therefore the owners of every record created by any of them. If the owner may change a record, any anonymous visitor may thus change records created by another visitor as well.
- Checking this box determines whether a text box or a drop-down list with the selected value should be displayed in the visual board instead of the control value itself, with the option to change the value without having to open and edit the record in the edit form.
2.2. “Resources” tab
2.2.1. Resources
- Definition of resources that appear as individual columns of the visual board.
- If the manually entered list of resources is empty, the columns are created from the values of the “Resource” column in the displayed records.
- A record whose value in the “Resource” column does not match any resource is not displayed on the visual board. If no resources are defined, all records are displayed in a single column named after the control; if resources are defined but the “Resource” column is not selected, the columns remain empty. If the resource query ends with an error, the visual board is displayed as if no resources were defined and the error is written to the “Errors” log.
- The header of each column shows the number of cards in parentheses after the column name.
- Variables can be used in a manually entered list of resources. Resource names entered in several languages are displayed in the language of the user.
- The resource radio button contains the following two types of resource definition:
- Separated by Enter – the list of resource values is set manually, in a text field using values separated by enter
- From query – the list of resources defines a database query, which is evaluated when opening or updating the edit form
2.2.2. Save resource ID to the database
- Checking this box determines whether the database event records have a foreign key value stored in the resource value that references the primary key of the resource.
- The dialog offers this box only when resources are defined “From query”. A record is then assigned to a column of the visual board by the ID of the record of the resource query, and the column name is the value of the first column of the resource query.
2.3. “Text” tab
2.3.1. Columns
- Definition of the columns displayed in the event text box on the card of the visual board.
2.4. “Tooltip” tab
2.4.1. Columns
- Definition of the columns of details displayed when hovering the mouse over a visual board event.
- The tooltip appears when the mouse pointer hovers over the card text, and only for a card whose text from the columns of the “Text” tab is not empty. The tooltip is not displayed on mobile devices.
2.5. “Help” tab
2.5.1. Help
- In the edit form, the help is displayed as a help icon in the header of the first column of the board; the help text appears when the mouse pointer hovers over the icon.
- Text – the help text is defined by a manually entered text string in a multi-line text field below the radio button
- The From query option is not available for this control.
- A detailed description of the help text is provided in the separate guide Layout settings.
2.6. “Rights” tab
2.6.1. Rights
- Rights define a list of user groups and users who have permission to view the control on the edit form.
2.6.2. Replace rights to other controls
- The “Replace rights to other controls” function is used to unify the rights within the entire edit form for controls that are related in terms of rights.
- Thanks to the “Show...” link, it is possible to display a list of all controls in the edit form, including setting the rights of these controls. A check box is displayed for each control to select it. When the control is saved, the same rights are then set for the selected controls.
- An alternative for unifying rights within the entire edit form is to display the report available from the “Rights of child objects” tab in the edit form settings.
2.7. “Save”, “Delete”, and “Close” buttons
- “Save” button – Saves changes to the control settings.
- “Delete” button – Permanently deletes the control.
- “Close” button – Closes the control settings dialog without saving changes.
